Black Expo vs. Brickyard 400

Today’s matchup: The 30-50,000 expected attendees of this year’s Indiana Black Expo VERSUS the 200-250,000 expected attendees of this year’s Brickyard 400 Nascar race.

Score Card: Two days of fun and guns, Friday 7/20 and Saturday 7/21 of Black Expo, compared to two days of cars and bars, Saturday 7/28 and Sunday 7/29. Who can produce the most violent crime and use the most public safety resources? Since our society is so enamored with sporting events, why not foster a little competitive spirit between these two events that are scheduled days apart. If President Obama and the “Un”-Concerned Clergy can be divisive by promoting race and class warfare, why shouldn’t I stick a toe in the water of ignorance? Will black on black violent crime or white on white violent crime win the day?

Predictions: I’ll leave it to our readers to come up with some of their own predictions. However, if you would like to offer any predictions please offer an explanation using logic and reason. Maybe all will go smoothly for both events but history teaches us that his is unlikely; one event tends to be more violent than the other.

What is most disheartening is that we are forced to tolerate the sad reality of black on black crime every single year for Indiana Black Expo.

  1. Polipit, GREAT post!

It is absolutely unjustifiable that we can hold the largest spectator event in the world and nobody has to worry about being shot! Yet during Black Expo, our downtown is trashed, hotels trashed, shots fired inside first class hotels and the streets. The Black Expo is an example of anarchy and lawlessness....just watch any video of what happens downtown this weekend.

We need a Mayor who has a pair and will say NO to Black Expo in the interest of public safety!

Article I of the Indiana Constitution states: "We declare...that all power is inherent in the people...that all free governments are and of right outght to be founded on their authority, and instituted for their PEACE, SAFETY, AND WELL-BEING..."

I submit to you that by taking an oath of office the mayor is sworn to uphold the Indiana Constitution and that allowing Black Expo is a violation of Article I of the Indiana Constitution.

  2. 1/4 of the IMPD will be within the downtown area policing this event. That says it all. Fewer attendees than the race, less crime and significantly fewer officers than work all three IMS races combined.

In 2010, 10 people were shot in downtown Indianapolis during the saturday night of Expo, 3 separate shootings. That is unacceptable in our city. It also wasn't an isolated incident. There are repeated outbreaks of violent crime during the event. IBE, the COI and the IMPD can continually denounce then dismiss the crime as not being Expo related, yet, all of those people are downtown for one reason, EXPO.

I just hope no innocents nor officers are hurt this year.

  3. Anon 1:07, I frequently pray for the safety of our law enforcement officers. This weekend I will focus more intently on those prayers.
