I caution those within Indianapolis Metro Police Department who may rejoice at the pending resignation of Frank Straub. If Mayor Ballard can blunder as badly as he did with hiring and maintaining Straub, don't think he can't appoint someone equally as bad or worse than Dr. Straub. Furthermore, Straub isn't set to resign until August; let's all hope he doesn't subscribe to a "scorched earth" policy because he can continue to damage IMPD prior to his departure. My advice: Be cautiously optimistic and watch Straub and Ballard very closely.
My wildly ridiculous predictions: 1) Morale will instantly improve among the officers on IMPD. 2) Straub flexes his ego and power one last time before leaving and Ballard continues to do nothing. 3) IMPD morale sinks again when they realize Ballard is the bigger problem. 4) If Richard Hite remains in Indianapolis, Ballard appoints him as the next Public Safety Director and affirms point #3. 5) Straub goes to Chicago to work with a friend - but who really cares where he goes and who he works with. 6) A State audit is finally done on the Public Safety Budget and they discover real "corruption" with the handling of our tax dollars. Oh yeah...and we all live happily ever after.
Man I write a good story!

By all appearance Rick Hite comes from a Culture of Corruption!

Can anyone confirm or deny the rumor that Straub had a "corruption list" and was going to go public with it and demand the mayor fire all the officers on it, without due process or proof of involvement in said corruption (or, more appropriately, misconduct)?
ReplyDeleteWhich led to a meeting behind closed doors where Straub got a little big for his britches and was essentially forced out for trying to circumvent the legal process...
How about we send you our own albatross from Chicago to be with his buddy? We really don't want your friend here! Lol
ReplyDeleteThis is always about egos and chest thumping. It is never about what's best for the taxpayers and the good citizens. Let police men do their jobs and kick these Compstat clowns to the curb.
ReplyDeleteReread George Orwell's "Animal Farm" if you think this kind of bullying your troops is a good idea.

ReplyDeleteMy apologies for not getting to this sooner, however I was a little under the weather the past few days. Frank Straub's resignation is long over due. I have seen so many articles and opinions thought that want to blame this on people (and IMPD) resisting change from an "outsider." this is simply not the case, and the supporters of Heir Doctor refuse to acknowledge his many shortcomings which have contributed, more than anything else, to his demise. He has never been a leader. IMPD wants & needs a true leader at the helm. Many of the officers I've spoken with hang their heads in shame and disgust each time a fellow officer is found tarnishing the badge, either by poor choices or just plain stupidity. They long for more and better accountability. Frank Straub was not the answer. From the moment he stood before rank and file officers in an academy auditorium, lying & boasting about his involvement at ground zero in NYC on 9/11/01, to his insistance that a few bad officers reflect an entire dept that is corrupt and has been for years...and he is the only person capable of ressurecting a dept that was better than before, to his cooking the crime stats with his "comp-stat" performance models (that have gotten him into much trouble in other cities) Frank has never been a leader. He has been a liar, a bully, a manipulator, a dictator, and egomaniac, a self serving politician and an obtuse figure at the helm of this city's public safety division, and specifically over IMPD.
ReplyDeleteNo one who opposes Straub will argue that change and more harsh, and swift accountability is needed within IMPD, but I know very few who actually understand and see how this guy has worked over the past 2 years that will say he is or was the man for the job. His frivilous and reckless spending of taxpayer dollars to remodel his office at the CCB, and hiring of 5 of his buddies from the east coast into positions that never existed before (each of Franks depts have chiefs or dept heads, we don't need deputy directors duplicating services) but Frank needed to surround himself with like minded people to feel good about himself. There are so many seperate events during his 2 years here that I could cite and expound on that my fingers would likely drop off my hands at the end of all the typing.
I'll sum it up by reflecting on what was written above. Ballard screwed up the first time with Straub, he could very well do it a second time. I hope the 5 "deputy directors' are fired either beofre or once Straub leaves in August, however if we get someone placed in the PSDs position who is cut from the same mold, we are destined to go down a similar road, with adversity, and finger pointing, instead of positive forward progress with a dept that is largely made up of fine men and women who just want to be led and dealt with fairly.

this sums it up
DeleteThe current rumor is that Hunter is going to get the PSD gig.
ReplyDeleteI've heard this rumor as well. I'm not certain this would be a good move on Ballard's part. Hunter has political aspirations that don't end with the position of PSD. Selecting Hunter might not be the best choice.
DeleteBut Hunter did write the Public Safety job description to mirror his own resume while he was Public Safety Chair. At one point, he might have been an acceptable choice. Unfortunately, his own puffed up sense of self has made him unacceptably arrogant and convinced that his ideas and ways of doing things are far superior to what anyone else might have to offer. He was Straub's lapdog far too long and is just another dictator in the making.
